Hello. My name is Donna Smith, and I'm a young female who was born in Bronx New York. I have three brothers and
two sisters. While growing up I always particapted in dance class, baby sitting, and other recreational sports such as
gymnastics. Even though I enjoyed a lot of diverse activities, my interest was always the ocean. As a child up to know I have
a desire to be in the ocean and learn about it's characters. I became apart of South Broward's Marine Magnet program because
I like to study about the earth's best aspect, the ocean. Studying something so beautiful, mysterious, and diverse is
what interest me and South Broward is the best place due to all of it's opportunities and equipment. In the future I plan
to attend college and make a career delivering babies.
My Site
I mentored at South Broward's water safety class. This class is taught by Mrs. Lynn Hazel. http://reefdogs.tripod.com/MarineMagnet/index.html . The school is located on 1901 N. Federal Highway, Hollywood Fl. South Broward High School, home of the "Bulldogs" has a
long and proud history in the city of Hollywood. It began in the 1920's as a single building school in Dania, Florida,
just about 2 miles north of its present site. South Broward, at its current location, opened its doors to approximately 330
students in 1949, with Mr. Myron L. Ashmore, its principal. He would later become superintendent of the district. Though the
student population was totally reflective of the community at its time, it lacked the rich diversity it has today.
In this class I help Mrs. Hazel with office work. I do attendance and put in scores. I grade test
and make up work. If she needs a test typed up, paper work copied, something taken to the office, and many other things I
do it for her. When I'm not doing office work I am helping her regulate her class by the pool or in the gym. This consists
of me personally being in the water to standing outside making sure the students are safe and completing their work. I
also monitoring the class in the gym and get the equipment (balls, racks, ropes, ext.) out so they can play.

Obstacle Coarse Relay Race
I designed an obstacle coarse relay for her students to do. This is also my project for the semester. I chose this because
it's a fun activity for her class to receive a grade in. It was also suggested by my mentor. Mrs. Hazel needed something
for her students to participate in, and since this is a physical fitness/swimming class, this relay achieves demonstrates
the class goal of training. To accomplish this I had to design a coarse. To find diverse coarse games I looked up
activites on the internet and in sport activity books. In preparation I laid out three cones, six hula hoops, and
a soccer ball on the ground in a pattern. A few feet away was a chair. I also had to blow up 70 balloons. There were two of
these lanes identically set up. Each student had to kick the soccer ball threw the cones, hop threw the hula hoops with
one foot, spin around fifteen times, run to the chair and pop a balloon on it, then run back to start so your next team member
can go. The team who finished first received ten extra credit points. The losers received 5. The outcome was ver good. The
students dividing into two teams and racing each other. Her students enjoyed what i made up for them. My mentorship used it
as a quiz grade for her students.
